PS5 or PS5 Pro for GTA 6: Watch out for this key difference
PS5 or PS5 Pro to play GTA 6? As Rockstar's game gets closer to release, choosing the right console becomes increasingly important. But contrary to what you might think, the PS5 Pro won't necessarily let you play GTA 6 at 60 FPS.
GTA 6: 30 FPS, even on PS5 Pro?
This is the crucial point to remember.
Rockstar stated in a presentation that GTA 6 is currently running at 30 FPS on consoles. No 60 FPS mode has been announced, not even for PS5 Pro. So Sony’s most powerful console shouldn’t revolutionize the game’s frame rate. Its advantage will mainly be in graphics quality and image processing.
The PS5 Pro should mostly improve visuals
With a more powerful GPU, enhanced ray tracing, and especially its PSSR, the PS5 Pro has more power to improve GTA 6’s visuals.
PSSR uses machine learning to reconstruct a more detailed image from a less expensive internal render.
For a game as ambitious as GTA 6, this could mean a sharper, more stable image, especially in scenes with lots of vegetation, buildings, or long-distance detail.
GTA 6 is also officially announced as optimized for PS5 Pro. But Rockstar has not yet revealed exactly what the graphical differences will be between the two consoles.
Sony is preparing a surprise for the standard PS5
However, the PS5 Pro is no longer the only PlayStation console benefitting from Sony’s advances in image reconstruction.
Sony recently unveiled QSSR, a new technology designed to bring machine learning-assisted upscaling to the standard PS5.
This is great news for players: the PS5 could progressively improve its image quality without needing the extra power of the PS5 Pro.
However, be careful: Sony has not announced that GTA 6 will use QSSR.

For GTA 6, the answer ultimately depends on your budget.
The PS5 is the most reasonable choice. It will run GTA 6 as Rockstar intended, allowing you to fully enjoy the game without spending nearly €900.
The PS5 Pro is more for enthusiasts. If you have a large 4K TV and want the best visuals possible, it should provide a superior visual experience. But you should definitely not buy the Pro expecting to automatically get 60 FPS on GTA 6.
